What is ABS material


acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene copolymer abbreviation ABS.ABS resin is one of the five synthetic resins, its impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, chemical resistance and excellent electrical properties, but also with easy processing, product size and stability, good surface gloss characteristics, easy coating , Coloring, but also can carry on secondary processing such as surface metallization, electroplating, welding, hot pressing and bonding etc. It is widely used in machinery, automobile, electronics, instrumentation, textile and construction industries, Wide range of thermoplastic engineering plastics. Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers are terpolymers composed of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. ABS is usually light yellow or milky white crystalline non-crystalline resin. ABS is one of the most widely used engineering plastics.

chemical properties

Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers are terpolymers composed of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene.

With the adjustment of the proportion of three components, the physical properties of the resin will have some changes:

1,3-butadiene provides low temperature ductility and impact resistance to ABS resins, but excessive butadiene reduces the hardness, gloss, and flowability of the resin;

Acrylonitrile ABS resin provides hardness, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other chemical corrosion properties;

Styrene provides the ABS resin with hardness, process flow and surface finishes.

Plastic ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkali and a variety of acids, but soluble in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons, by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oil and other erosion will have stress cracking. Poor weatherability of ABS, easy to produce degradation under the action of ultraviolet light; half an year later, the impact strength decreased by half.

Aging properties: heat aging, ozone aging, UV lamp aging, salt fog aging, xenon lamp aging, carbon arc lamp aging, halogen lamp aging;

Resistance to liquid properties: lubricants, gasoline, oil, acid, alkali, organic solvents, water;

Combustion performance: vertical combustion, alcohol torch combustion, roadway propane combustion, smoke density, combustion rate, effective combustion calorific value, total smoke release;

Applicable Performance: Hydraulic resistance, pulse test, electrical conductivity, water tightness, airtightness;

Production parameters: melt index, viscosity, mold shrinkage, melting temperature and so on.

Conventional performance

Plastic ABS non-toxic, tasteless, the appearance of ivory translucent, or transparent particles or powder. The density is 1.05 ~ 1.18g / ㎝3, the shrinkage is 0.4% ~ 0.9%, the elastic modulus is 2Gpa, the Poisson's ratio is 0.394, the hygroscopicity is less than 1%, the melting temperature is 217 ~ 237 ℃, the thermal decomposition temperature is> 250 ℃.

Mechanical properties

Plastic ABS has excellent mechanical properties, its impact strength is excellent, can be used at very low temperatures; plastic ABS wear resistance, good dimensional stability, but also has oil resistance, can be used under medium load and low speed Bearing. ABS creep resistance than PSF and PC, but smaller than the PA and POM.

Thermal properties

Plastic ABS thermal deformation temperature of 93 ~ 118 ℃, the product after annealing treatment can also increase about 10 ℃. ABS at -40 ℃ can still show some toughness, in -40 ~ 100 ℃ temperature range of use.

Electrical properties

Plastic ABS has good electrical insulation and is virtually unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency and can be used in most environments.
